How To Enable Patient Callback

At the end of a voice call, select “Allow 1-Hour Callback” from the Call Summary screen.

You can choose a different duration if desired—the selected time will define how long the callback window remains active.

  • iOS & Android: Allow 1-Hour Callback is available after ending your call and is located at the bottom of the Call Summary screen
  • Desktop: Allow 1-Hour Callback is available after ending your call and is located on the Call Summary screen

Once enabled, the patient will receive a text message at the number you entered when placing the initial voice call.

How It Works For Patients

Patients will receive a text message containing a callback number. This number connects them to your personal cell phone while maintaining privacy through a secure “bridge” number.

Important Notes

  • The callback number sent to patients is a secure bridge line that forwards calls to your personal phone.
  • Your forwarding number should be the phone number where you want to receive your patient callbacks. (such as your cell number). This number will NEVER be shared with patients.
  • If no forwarding number is set, calls will route based on your Caller ID settings (e.g., office number).
  • If the callback window expires, calls will automatically redirect to your Caller ID number.

Changing Callback Duration

Changing the callback duration allows you to customize the window of time in which patients can return your call. The callback duration defaults to a 1-hour window. You can adjust this at any time in Dialer settings to set a callback window between 1 and 6 hours.

Changing Callback Duration on the App:

  • Open the Doximity app
  • Tap Dialer
  • Tap Settings
    • iOS: Settings is located in the top left
    • Android: Settings is located in the top right
  • Go to Voice Calls / Voice Settings
    • Android users: select Callback Line Settings

From your Callback Line settings, you can:

  • Tap on Callback Line Duration and select your preferred callback window from the dropdown menu
    • This setting will apply to all future callback sessions until changed.
  • You can also tap on Forward calls to, to edit your Forwarding Number
    • This should be your mobile number, as it’s the number where patient callback calls will be routed.

Changing Callback Duration on the Doximity Website (Desktop):

NOTE: On the website, the Callback Duration setting will not appear in Dialer Settings until a one-time setup is completed.

To enable it, place a call, end the call, then select 'Allow 1-hour Callback', and enter your forwarding number.

You’ll only need to do this once. Once completed, this setting will remain available going forward.

  • Log in to the Doximity website
  • Click on the Dialer tab (located on the left side of the screen)
  • Click on the Settings button (located in the bottom left of the screen)
  • If you have completed the one-time setup (see the above note), you will see your Callback Line settings within your Dialer settings.

From your Callback Line settings, you can:

  • See a preview of the Callback (bridge) Line that will be texted to patients when you enable the callback feature
  • Select the pencil icon to edit your Forwarding Number. This should be your mobile number, as it’s the number where patient callback calls will be routed.

NOTE: This number will NEVER be shared with patients.

  • Use the dropdown menu to change your Callback Line Duration.
    • Select your desired time from the list of available time durations. (1-6 hours)
    • This setting will persist for all subsequent callback times until it is changed.
