Sending Prescriptions

How do I send a prescription?

After completing registration, you can begin sending prescriptions from the Doximity app.

To send a prescription:

  • Enter the patient’s information.
  • Select the patient’s medication or medications.
  • Choose a pharmacy, or select Patient will select to allow the patient to choose their preferred pharmacy after the prescription is sent.
  • Review and submit the prescription.

Can I choose the pharmacy for the patient?

Yes. You can select a pharmacy before sending the prescription.

If you prefer to let the patient choose their own pharmacy, select Patient will select.

Can I prescribe controlled substances, compound medications, or specialty medications?

Doximity Prescribe does not currently support prescribing controlled substances, compound medications, or specialty medications.

Doximity Prescribe supports routine prescriptions, OTC items, and common DME, such as inhalers, nebulizers, and test strips.

Does Doximity Prescribe connect to my EMR?

No. Doximity Prescribe is currently a standalone tool and does not connect to your EMR.

This allows Doximity Prescribe to remain accessible for on-the-go prescribing. You can access a history of prescriptions written within the platform.

Where do I sign the prescription?

Your signature is sent digitally on your behalf.

When you first register for Doximity Prescribe and confirm your information, you complete a Prescriber Signature Attestation. This means you do not need to manually sign each prescription.

Patient Experience

What happens after I send a prescription?

Once the prescription is submitted, the patient will receive a text message notifying them that their clinician has sent them a prescription.

If you did not select a pharmacy for the patient, the patient will be prompted to choose a pharmacy upon receiving the text message.

Pricing

Is Doximity Prescribe free?

Yes. Doximity Prescribe is free for eligible Doximity members.

Can patients see available coupons, such as GoodRx?

Yes. The prices patients see when selecting a pharmacy are based on available coupons and cash-pay options.

How is pricing determined? How does it work with the patient’s insurance?

The pricing shown to patients is based on available coupons and cash-pay options.

When the patient picks up the prescription, they can provide their insurance information to the pharmacy. The pharmacy can then help determine whether the cash-pay/coupon price or the patient’s insurance price is cheaper.

Most patients do not have insight into prescription pricing before pickup, so Doximity Prescribe is designed to provide more pricing transparency.

Enterprise or Clinic-Level Access

Is there an enterprise or clinic-level offering for Doximity Prescribe?
