Dialer Feature in the Doximity App Frequently Asked Questions

1. When I dial my patient’s number, why does the app show the number as (415) XXX-XXXX?

When you make a call to your patient, the call is transferred to a 415 Doximity phone line. Then, we route the call to your patient. This masks your cell phone number and displays the Caller ID you have chosen.

2. Will patients ever be able to see my phone number?

No, they’ll only see the “Call From” number you’ve selected. Your own mobile number will not be displayed to patients.

3. Can patients see the nickname I give to my phone numbers?

No, these nicknames are only for internal use. They will not be displayed to the recipients of your call - only the phone number will.

4. How much does Doximity Dialer cost?

Doximity Dialer is currently free for qualifying clinicians. When you use Doximity Dialer, your phone will place a call to our servers using your cellular connection. Like with all phone calls, your carrier usage fees will apply as applicable.

5. Who can use Doximity Dialer?

Doximity Dialer is currently available to physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and pharmacists in the United States. We are working hard to scale the service and offer it to more clinical professions. If you are interested in using the Doximity Dialer in the future but do not currently qualify, you may create a Doximity account now and we will notify you by email once it is available.

6. I keep getting a “We are unable to complete your call" message.

Check your settings in the app. Make sure you’ve selected your device phone number as the phone you're calling from.

If you are still receiving this message, you may have Caller ID permanently blocked. Please see the next question.

7. How do I set my caller ID setting so my number is not private/blocked?

On most phones, you can find this option by following the steps below. If these steps do not work for you, you will need to contact your phone carrier.

For iOS:

  1. Open your iPhone Settings
  2. Tap Phone
  3. Tap Show My Caller ID
  4. Set Show My Caller ID to ON

For Android:

  1. Open the standard Phone App on your phone
  2. Open the menu by tapping More (3-dots icon) in the top right corner of the screen
  3. Tap Settings from the menu that appears
  4. Tap Calls
  5. Tap Additional settings
  6. Tap on Caller ID
  7. Select Show number

8. Can I get calls back on this number?

Calls returned to you will be routed directly to the Caller ID number. At this time, we do not provide temporary call-back numbers but it is something we are considering for future releases.

9. What about a permanent number, like Google Voice?

Doximity Dialer is not meant to be a full-service phone number replacement, rather a way to make calls from a specific phone number in special cases.

10. How do I choose what numbers I can use?

Visit the “Settings” from the top right corner of the app, then visit “My numbers”.

11. Is this app HIPAA-secure?

Yes. Doximity does not store any recordings of your calls and we follow industry best practices for the security and privacy of your data. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.

12. Can I text using the Doximity app?

We are working on a One-Way Texting feature to allow you to send no-reply texts to patients without displaying your cell phone number. The feature is currently in beta and only available to those who are part of Doximity's Beta Program.

13. Does this app use my data connection? (might also ask: does it use voice over IP/VOIP)

No, Doximity Dialer functions entirely by using your phone’s existing cellular connection. You must have cellular signal in order to use the app.

14. Can I make international calls with Doximity?

Doximity Dialer only supports making calls to and from U.S. phone numbers.

15. How do I configure Epic Haiku to place calls using Doximity Dialer?

If you are using an iPhone, do the following:

  1. Install and login to Doximity Dialer
  2. Install and login to Epic Haiku
  3. Tap on the main Settings icon on your iPhone
  4. Scroll down and tap on Haiku settings
  5. Scroll down and select “Doximity Dialer” under “Place Calls Using”
  6. Open a patient's chart on Haiku
  7. Tap on the patient's phone number and Doximity Dialer will launch

If you are using an Android device, do the following:

  1. Install and login to Doximity Dialer
  2. Install and login to Epic Haiku
  3. Open a patient's chart on Haiku
  4. Tap on the patient's phone number and select Doximity to place the call

16. Why do recipients hear a recorded message at the beginning of all calls that I make with Doximity Dialer?

In order to make calls without a test message playing, we ask that you verify your account. You can do this by tapping 'Verify Your Account' in settings. Only certain credentialed healthcare professionals are permitted to use Doximity Dialer and only for the purposes of patient care and clinical communication.

17. Does Dialer support calls over WiFi?

No, any calls made through Dialer use your phone's default call app. Please note, that any normal roaming or other charges will apply as if you were placing a normal voice call.
