How do I select a note type?
Before you begin transcribing, you have the option to select the desired note type from the drop-down menu. If no selection is made, Scribe will use the default (Progress Note), which can still be changed after your Scribe session is done.
How do I start, pause, and resume a Scribe session?
Select your note type and visit language, then tap Start Recording. You can pause at any time, for example, to step out of the room, and tap Resume to continue.
Is there a session length limit?
Yes. Scribe sessions have a maximum length of 140 minutes. Scribe will give you a warning before the limit is reached and a note will be generated up to the 140 minute mark.
Can Scribe capture multiple speakers?
Yes. Scribe captures all audio within range of your device's microphone, including patients, caregivers, or other clinicians present in the room. For Dialer calls, Scribe also supports multiple participants. For best results, ensure all speakers can be clearly heard by your device.
NOTE: Scribe is not available on 3-way or conference Dialer voice calls.
How do I use Scribe during a Dialer voice or video call?
There are two ways to start Scribe on a Dialer call:
- Auto-start: Turn on the Scribe toggle on the Dialer dial pad before your call. Scribe will launch automatically when the call connects and stay on for future calls unless you turn it off.
- Manual start: Keep the toggle off and tap Scribe from the in-call menu whenever you're ready.
Your patient will be notified when Scribe is active; voice calls play an audio notification; video calls show a brief on-screen notice.
When you're done, tap the Scribe is assisting menu and select End to save and generate your note, or Discard to delete without saving. (On Android, tap Pause first to reveal these options.) Your note will appear in your Scribe notes and in your Dialer call history.
Can I monitor Scribe while using other apps?
Yes. You can background the Doximity app while Scribe is actively recording. Scribe will continue capturing your conversation while you use other apps or your device screen is off.
On iOS devices with Dynamic Island, a "Scribe is assisting" indicator will appear on your lock screen and in the Dynamic Island so you can confirm recording is still running at a glance without returning to the app.
Note for iOS users: In some cases, iOS may unexpectedly pause the microphone when the app is backgrounded. If you experience this, we recommend enabling the “Keep Screen Active” setting in Scribe settings, which helps prevent the system from interrupting the microphone.
If microphone interruptions continue after enabling this setting, this is likely related to iOS system behavior that can vary by device and iOS version.
