How To Use Smart Edits To Customize A Scribe Note (Desktop Only)

Smart Edits allow you to quickly refine your note or bring in additional detail from the original transcript without needing to rewrite it manually. These changes apply only to the note you are currently viewing.

NOTE: The Smart Edits customization feature is only available on the Doximity Website.

Accessing Your Notes

  • On the Scribe home page, you’ll see a list on the left-hand side of all your current Scribe notes.

  • Each note shows the date of creation, the time until expiration, and its title.

Note: If you have not added a title, your note will be automatically assigned one based on the weekday and time it was created.

  • To edit a note, select it from the left-hand side of the page.

Using The Smart Edits Menu

When viewing a selected note, you’ll see the note transcription in the center of the screen and the Smart Edits menu on the right-hand side.

The Smart Edits menu allows you to select from four Preset Smart Edit options, or you can generate a Custom Smart Edit by entering your own instructions into the text field.

Preset Smart Edit Options:

The four Preset Smart Edit options are:

  • Add Billing Codes – Adds relevant billing codes to the note

  • More ConciseShortens the note by removing redundancy while preserving all clinical information

  • More Detailed –  Expands the note with relevant detail from the visit transcript

  • Update Pronouns – Changes all instances of 'he/him' to 'she/her' throughout the note (and vice versa)

Selecting a Preset Smart Edit will trigger Scribe to immediately regenerate your note with the selected changes.

    • Additions will be highlighted in green

    • Removals will be highlighted in red with a strikethrough

  • Click Accept Changes to apply the change, or Undo to revert to your original note without saving the change

NOTE: You must accept or reject the change before proceeding with further edits

  • Upon clicking Accept Changes, Scribe will disable the highlights and seamlessly incorporate and save the changes made to your note

Custom Smart Edits:

You can also create a Custom Smart Edit by entering instructions into the text field. The custom field accepts any free-text instruction. (e.g., "Change diagnosis to X", or “Make this sound more conversational”)

  • To regenerate your note with your Custom Smart Edit, enter your instructions into the text field and click Update to preview your change.

  • Smart Edits use your original transcript and note as context and will not introduce or invent new clinical information
  • Custom Smart Edits work best with specific, targeted instructions rather than broad rewrites
